Busy bee

12:35 pm Thu, 17th February 2005

Man. Life these days has been just a whirlwind of activities and planning. So many things to remember, so many things to do.. sometimes it feels like my mind is gonna overload. I’m constantly reminding myself of things that I’ve forgotten, at the most unlikely of times.. like sitting on the toilet:”Ooh, gotta remember to take my passport photo”. πŸ˜›

Anyway, things are progressing fairly rapidly.. I’ve been doing lots of research. In addition to looking up websites about London and about living & working in London, I’ve also bought Lonely Planet’s guide to London – which has been quite an interesting read so far. Reading up on all this stuff really gets me excited about the move. I can’t wait to get there and see London with my own eyes.. soak up the new-ness of it all.. and just *be* there. πŸ˜€

So updating my to-do list:

  • Take passport photos & verify with GP
  • Send british passport renewal form (Mon 21st Feb)
  • Complete CV draft (Tues 15th Feb)
  • Complete CV second draft (Tues 22nd Feb)
  • Final CV check with various friends (Fri 25th Feb)
  • Hand CV into Global Career Link for assessment (Mon 28th Feb)
  • Write cover letter
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Organise accomodation with cousins
  • Book flight to London (but still keeping eye out for cheap Singapore Air tix)
  • Research best suburbs/areas to live in London
  • Read Lonely Planet’s “London” guide
  • Read “7 Habits Of Highly Effective People”
  • Try and save $$$ <-- Eeek.. not doing too well! :\
  • Buy laptop (Sun 13th Mar)
  • Buy dark coloured (grey, blue or black) business suit
  • Buy more cold/wet weather clothing
  • Buy black work heels
  • Buy runners/sneakers

Gee this list grows with each week – even after striking off completed tasks. Eeek! Need to keep focused, not get distracted by things. Hrm.. more about this later..

And on top of everything, I think I’m sick now. πŸ™ Have managed to come down with a minor cold – probably due to not keeping warm enough with this sudden cooler weather, not sleeping enough, going out too much, and being too busy/stressed with things. Need to take a few days out to rest and relax methinks. And keep warm! I guess it would have all started with clubbing last Sat night – getting home at 6:30am on Sunday morning wouldn’t have helped either. But I think I would have been ok if I had slept early on Sun/Mon/Tues nights. Meh. Silly me.

Current listening :: “Twenty-Four” – Switchfoot (Am looking forward to see these guys!)

For those who were bothered clicking on the “more” link… here’s something a little more personal. Take it with a grain of salt. πŸ˜‰

I’ve realised I get too easily distracted by people… too easily caught up by rel’ships with people. And consequently, too easily hurt. It’s something I definitely don’t have time for right now.

I guess relationships (and friendships) are something I’m feeling a bit cynical about. Cynical.. and sad. I’ve realised you can meet so many different people and get along splendidly with them all… but to meet someone who actually genuinely cares for you (and is not ultimately using you for self-centred reasons) seems to be a rare thing indeed. Someone who cares for you beyond that surface-level, shallow facade. Who sees you beyond your looks. Beyond your clothing, your skin, your facial structure, your hair, your body… honestly, having guys show interest/talk to you/pursue you because they reckon you’re hot is flattering yes, but it ultimately leaves you feeling empty. Because in the end you know they don’t actually care about you. It’s always all about them.

Gee… no need to sound so glum (even if it is a little salty).

Life is a lot of filtering. Testing the water, seeing whats out there, making mistakes, getting frustrated, learning from it AND finally trying all over again hopefully a little wiser. Relationships are no different. Its not easy finding the right person (or friends), along the way it hurts but the goal at the end makes it all worth it (Guys have it no different). Finding someone to ‘share the experience’ of life with ultimately makes the journey have purpose. So while the superficial come and go, learn from them, enjoy the experience and let it make you a better person.

hehe… just waxing lyrical to the new Jack Johnson album. Oh so smooth!

The new Jack Johnson is out???? I thought it wasn’t due till March/April or sth? How did you manage to get it so soon?

Yes filtering. However how does one know whether someone is a “superficial” or not? Without wasting time and effort on them, without getting in too deep. It would be nice to know upon first meeting someone – then you know whether or not they’re worth wasting your time & effort on. πŸ˜›

The album isn’t out until the start of March but the Internet is a wonderous thing πŸ˜‰

If we knew immediately that someone/something wasn’t worth it wouldn’t life get a bit boring? Everyone would be happy in a relationship and most of the business ventures in the world would never have started. Sometimes the thrill of the unknown is appealing and usually the time we only really push the boundaries and learn.

The act of gaining experience is a great way of building a filter and only getting to know a person over time can you really use that filter. Time consuming though and sometimes definately appealing to have an instant one. Me… I just want mental telepathy πŸ˜›

You’ll enjoy reading ‘7 habits’, lots of great stuff about people and relationships in there.

    Enough pop philosophising from me.

Hm….. yes the internet is a wonderous thing. And sharing is caring……. *cough*hint hint*cough* πŸ˜‰

Thrill of unknown is one thing… being foolish or unwise about people is another.

Mind telepathy would definitely be a handy thing. Have u seen What Women Want? πŸ˜›

I guess its not so much wasting time on getting to know someone.. it’s more wasting time on self-centred and shallow ppl thats annoying.

Btw, with whom am I speaking? Surely there’s more to you than the letter “h”. πŸ˜›
